The American steel producer Nucor has once again raised the spot price (CSP) for hot-rolled coils by $10 per short tonne compared with the previous week. This is stated in the company’s letter to customers dated 5 October.
The new offer price stands at $1,230 per metric tonne. The CSP for the California Steel Industries (CSI) joint venture has also risen by $10 per short tonne, to $1,290 per metric tonne.
According to the company’s announcement, order lead times remain unchanged – ranging from three to five weeks.
On 8 September, the steel producer announced a CSP for this product at $1,190/t and has since gradually increased it by $10/t every week.
According to estimates by Kallanish, the price of hot-rolled steel in the US stood at $1,210–1,220 per short tonne on 2 October. During the corresponding week in 2025, spot prices ranged from $825 to $865 per short tonne.
As noted by Steel Market Update, at the end of September, prices for sheet and heavy plate in the United States were gradually rising – the supply shortage in the spot market, coupled with stable demand and long delivery times, is likely to continue into the fourth quarter.
It should be noted that the global market for hot-rolled coils in September 2026 showed mixed trends. In the United States, prices rose steadily due to limited spot supply and longer lead times. European producers were determined to raise prices, whilst in China the expected seasonal upturn remained uncertain.
