March Steel Shipments Up 10.9 Percent From Prior Month

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported today that for the month of March 2026, U.S. steel mills shipped 8,204,611 net tons, a 6.2 percent increase from the 7,725,314 net tons shipped in March 2025. Shipments were up 10.9 percent from the 7,395,507 net tons shipped in the previous month, February 2026. Shipments year-to-date in 2026 are 23,183,944 net tons, up 4.4 percent vs. 2025 shipments of 22,197,305 net tons for three months.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported today that for the month of March 2026, U.S. steel mills shipped 8,204,611 net tons, a 6.2 percent increase from the 7,725,314 net tons shipped in March 2025. Shipments were up 10.9 percent from the 7,395,507 net tons shipped in the previous month, February 2026. Shipments year-to-date in 2026 are 23,183,944 net tons, up 4.4 percent vs. 2025 shipments of 22,197,305 net tons for three months.

A comparison of shipments year-to-date in 2026 to the first three months of 2025 shows the following changes: corrosion resistant sheet and strip, up 13 percent, hot rolled sheet and strip, up 4 percent and cold rolled sheet and strip, down 6 percent.

In most regional markets for square billets, prices rose slightly in April—by $10–15 per ton. The exception was the Persian Gulf countries, where prices fell by $8 to $516/t (CFR), after average prices had previously surged by $79 per ton in March due to logistical issues stemming from the war in the region and a shortage caused by the suspension of Iranian billet shipments.
