2nd January, 2020: Chinese Scrap Metal Recorded Marginal Increase

BEIJING (Scrap Monster): The Chinese scrap metal prices mostly remained unchanged on ScrapMonster Price Index  as on January 2nd, Thursday. Steel, Brass and Bronze scrap prices held steady. Aluminum and Copper scrap prices recorded marginal increase. Meantime, Stainless Steel scrap prices edged higher on Index.

Copper Scrap Prices

The #1 Copper Bare Bright and #1 Copper Wire and Tubing saw price rise of CNY 100 per MT each.

The price of #2 Copper Wire and Tubing also increased by CNY 100 per MT.

#1 Insulated Copper Wire 85% Recovery prices were unchanged over the previous day. The price of #2 Insulated Copper Wire 50% Recovery too held steady when compared with the day before.

Copper Transformer scrap prices saw no variation in prices over the previous day. No price-change was witnessed in Cu Yokes.

Cu/Al Radiator and Heater Cores prices witnessed no change over the previous day.

Harness Wire 35% Recovery prices saw no change on Thursday, January 2nd.

Also, Scrap Electric Motors and Sealed Units prices remained unchanged.

Aluminum Scrap Prices

6063 Extrusions edged higher by CNY 50 per MT over the previous day.

Aluminum Ingots too were up by CNY 50 per MT.

The prices of Aluminum Radiators and Aluminum Transformers saw no variation.

E.C Aluminum Wire prices inched higher by CNY 50 per MT.

Old Cast and Old Sheet prices recorded increase by CNY 50 per MT each on 2nd January , 2020.

The prices of UBC held steady on Index.

Zorba 90% INF prices saw no change from the previous day.

Steel Scrap Prices

#1 HMS prices held steady on 2nd January, 2020.

Cast Iron Scrap reported no change in prices.

Stainless Steel Scrap Prices

201 SS prices were unchanged on Index.

304 SS Solid prices too remained flat over the previous day.

The price of 304 SS Turning, 309 SS and 310 SS held steady when compared with the prior day.

316 SS Solid scrap prices were flat on January 2nd, 2020.

Shred SS prices too saw no variation in prices over the day.

Brass/Bronze Scrap Prices

The Brass/Bronze Scrap prices in China remained unchanged on Index.

Brass Radiator scrap prices held steady on January 2nd, 2020.

Red Brass and Yellow Brass prices too were flat on Index.

A single deep-sea scrap deal was heard from Germany on Tuesday at $343/tonne cfr Türkiye for 13,000 tonnes of HMS 1&2 80:20, and at $363/t cfr for 7,000t of shredded and 6,000t of bonus grade material. The supplier initially entered the market with a $352/t cfr offer but, due to a lack of interest, lowered it to $348/t cfr last week before finally closing the sale at $343/t cfr.

HMS 1/2 scrap quotations (80:20) in the US fell by $2/t by April 4 compared to March 21, to $353/t FOB East Coast. In general, product rose in price by $16/t in March. Therefore, some metallurgical plants have already refused to accept scrap due to declining demand for finished rolled products.
