The current week production totaled 1.888 million net tons at a capability utilization rate of 81.6%.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The weekly production data published by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) denotes that production in the week ending on November 2, 2019 edged higher marginally over the prior week and the corresponding week a year before.

The current week production totaled 1.888 million net tons at a capability utilization rate of 81.6%. This compares with the production of 1.887 million net tons in the week ending November 2, 2018. The capability utilization rate in the year-ago week was 80.5%. Also, the production was up by 1.2% from the prior week ending October 26, 2019, when production had totaled 1.866 million net tons at a capability utilization rate of 80.7%.

The production by Southern region topped 767,000 net tons, closely followed by Great Lakes, whose production in the week ending November 2, 2019 totaled 676,000 net tons. North East and Midwest production totaled 190,000 net tons and 181,000 net tons respectively. Also, Western region accounted for 74,000 net tons of crude steel production during the week.

The cumulative year-to-date production through November 2, 2019 totaled 81.599 million net tons, which is up by 2.5% when matched with the production of 79.581 million net tons during the same period in 2018. The capability utilization rate surged higher year-on-year from 77.5% to 80.3%.
