Global steel production in November 2025 decreased by 4.6% compared to the same month in 2024, to 140.1 million tons. Compared to the previous month, the figure fell by 2.2%. This is evidenced by the World Steel Association’s global ranking of steel-producing countries (70).

Total steel production in the CIS countries + Ukraine decreased by 3.9% y/y and 1.6% m/m to 6.3 million tons. In particular, Ukraine’s production decreased by 1.2% m/m but increased by 18.5% y/y – to 641,100 tons.

According to World Steel, the top ten steel-producing countries in October were:

  • China – 69.9 million tons (-10.9% y/y);
  • India – 13.7 million tons (+10.8%);
  • USA – 6.8 million tons (+8.5%);
  • Japan – 6.8 million tons (-1.6%);
  • Russia – 5.2 million tons (-6.6%);
  • South Korea – 5.0 million tons (-4.8%);
  • Iran – 3.4 million tons (+9.2%);
  • Turkey – 3.3 million tons (+10%);
  • Germany – 2.8 million tons (-2.6%);
  • Brazil – 2.8 million tons (+0.7%).

In January-November, global steel production decreased by 2% y-o-y – to 1.662 billion tons. In the CIS+Ukraine region, the figure decreased by 5% y-o-y – to 74.1 million tons. Ukraine produced 6.81 million tons of steel in 11 months, down 3.1% y-o-y.

As reported by GMK Center, global steel production decreased by 0.9% compared to 2023, to 1.839 billion tons, at the end of 2024. In December 2024, the figure was 144.5 million tons, which is 5.6% more than in December 2023 and 1.6% less than in the previous month.

Ukraine produced 7.57 million tons of steel last year, which is 21.6% more than in 2023. In December, smelting volumes amounted to 547,000 tons (+5.1% y/y; +1.1% m/m).

American steel producer Nucor has raised its spot consumer price (CSP) for hot-rolled coil (HRC) by $5 per short ton compared to the previous week. This is stated in a letter to customers dated March 9. Thus, the current price is $1,010/ton. The new announcement is the eighth consecutive weekly price increase by the steel producer. After another month in which hot-rolled coil (HRC) prices in China recorded a steady though mild decline in February, domestic HRC prices are projected to firm to some degree this month as a consequence of recovering end-user demand and declining coil stocks at mills and in commercial warehouses, Mysteel's latest monthly report on the commodity suggests.
